Words Beta Read
How It Works
If this is your first time working with an editor, rest assured that I make a conscious effort to be critical, yet courteous.
Education and Experience
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Hawaii. I am also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association. You may review my editing experience here.
Edit with Track Changes
I will edit your work, making suggestions with the Track Changes feature. I currently use Microsoft Word 2016. It will be your responsibility to ensure readability of my suggestions and comments.
Language and Style
Born and raised in the United States, I am a native English speaker and most comfortable editing American English. I have an active subscription to the Chicago Manual of Style and utilize this guide while editing.
I maintain a paid subscription to Merriam-Webster Online. While editing, I cross-check spellings with their online version of the Collegiate Dictionary. Also available: Merriam-Webster Unabridged.
To assure that we are on the same page and you understand my editing style and commentary, I am happy to provide a complimentary two-page sample edit of your manuscript.
I will provide you with an approximate turnaround time for your project to ensure we meet your publication goals. An e-mail notification will be sent shortly before work begins.
I am readily available for discussion of your project via e-mail, Facebook messenger, Hangouts, telephone, and Skype. Telephone and video discussions must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
Details of your manuscript including title, release date, and story will be kept under strict confidence until publication. Your work will never be presented as an editing sample to prospective clients.
Letter of Agreement
To ensure peace of mind, each editing project over $250 is booked with a contract signed by both parties outlining terms and conditions including cost, services, timeline, confidentiality, and communication.
Booking Deposit & Rush Fees
A 20% non-refundable deposit will be due upon booking of a project. Clients wishing to get onto my schedule within two weeks from initial contact will need to pay a 50% rush fee.
Since interest in the work is an important factor for some authors seeking an editor, my favorite genres include science fiction, fantasy fiction, young adult, children’s fiction, dystopian, and mystery/detective novels. If you are curious, you can also check out my Books Read list. Personal reading preferences aside, I have worked in numerous genres outside of those listed above including action/adventure, children’s picture books, romance, erotic romance, horror, and non-fiction.
I offer four types of editing services, all of which are outlined below (click on the icons to read more). Proofreading projects are currently handled by my assistants, Carla and Cheryl. If you read through all the services pages and are still not sure what is best for you and your manuscript, please contact me so we can begin discussing your needs and how I can help you.
If you prefer visuals, you can watch a two-minute video that outlines my main services:
