SimpleMarkup #98 – Junk Therapy

Did you survive the hot weekend? We had my son’s fifth birthday party over the weekend, and so we busted out our big water slide (best party investment ever!). My three kids had some great, cool fun, and I got to show off my new shave-ice-making skills with our new Little Snowie 2.

It arrived last Wednesday, and while it’s pricey, I have a family of five, which means that when we are dying of heat and want to go to Waiola Shave Ice to cool off, it runs anywhere from $20 to $30. It’s not cheap, and by the time we drive home, we’re hot again. Honestly, we’ve used it so much in seven days that I’ve almost made my money back in shave ice.

I’m also pretty thrilled that making syrups is so easy. I’ve been making fresh strawberry, fresh mango (from our trees!), and I’ve got lychee to try too. I’ll be experimenting with sugar-free versions next, and I’m looking forward to that so that I can cool down without the sugar spike.

Since we’re talking about sugar, here’s Edie coming down from a rough job. I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately, sticking to lots of fruits, veggies, and poke, but sometimes work calls for something bad for you.

For me, it’s usually chocolate ice cream or a donut. That or this thing I like from a local bakery called pineapple cream cheese bulilit. Ohhh, it’s amazing! I’ve actually never been to the shop. My local supermarket sells the pineapple one, and 7-Eleven stocks their ube version. I’ll go one day when I’m out there.

What’s your go-to junk therapy?
