Sucker Punch Falls Short of Knockout

Sucker Punch PosterMr. Pikko rarely asks to see a movie, so when he requested we actually go see Sucker Punch in IMAX, it really says something about the movie’s marketing. Not that I needed persuasion, as the movie looked like it had a fascinating premise, scads of eye candy, and actually starred an actress I’m quite fond of: Emily Browning.

The only other movie I’ve seen her in is Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Gnomeo and Juliet: A Cute Adaptation

Anyone who’s known me since high school knows that I used to have a rather unhealthy obsession with Romeo and Juliet, particularly Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, though I was also a big Shakespeare fan in general, calling Julius Caesar my favorite play for several years. When I first saw this trailer, of course I had to groan because of the pun in the title and the obviously goofy subject matter of gnomes in general, but the kids had cleaned up the house on Saturday and rain prevented us from doing something outdoors.

‘The Eagle’ Fails to Fly High

The Eagle PosterEver since I dragged my dearly beloved to Black Swan a couple of weeks ago, he’s made this warped and pained face whenever I talk about going to the movies again, so to smooth things over I decided to pick something that might be a little more his type of movie as a peace offering. I do, after all, need a movie partner.

He didn’t really want to see Unknown, so I went for the one that was pitched during the last UFC: The Eagle.
